Embracing Solitude – Women and New Monasticism is the new book published by Dr Bernadette Flanagan, Director of Research at All Hallows College.
The launch was held at Mt St Annes, Killenard, Portarlington on Saturday 21st December, 2013 with Noirín Ni Riain PhD as the guest speaker. Noirin spoke in her launch of how “this is the book that we have been waiting for…in Ireland. We have crossed a spiritual rubicon, but the theme here is one of refreshing, transformative hope. This marvellous book is best described as a very tasty salubrious literary sandwich, a double decker actually!”
Sr. Gertrude Howley who knows Bernadette since her early teens also gave a heartwarming address. “The book is about New Monasticism, a movement that Bernadette has been involved in setting up in Ireland since 2009 when the 225th anniversary of the death of Nano Nagle, our foundress, was being celebrated.” Gertrude regaled the audience with other stories about Bernadette and stole the show!!
